I am a New Zealander living in the UK. I have been in Bristol in the South West of England since 2007. Before that I lived in London, for 3 years having left Wellington, NZ in 2004. When I moved to Bristol it didn’t take me long to feel like I had ‘come home’. The harbour! The hills! The coloured houses!
My guy Jamie and I bought our 1930s semi-detached house in South Bristol in December 2014 after deciding to / being forced to take the plunge when the house we were renting was put on the market. Although it was a stressful situation at the time (and bloody annoying as we’d moved every year for the previous three years) it was the push we needed. Hopefully now we can stay put for a while.
We have a cat (Stevie – she’s a girl. Wut.) and no kids so it’s just the 3 of us at the moment. I work full time and Jamie has recently taken the plunge and gone freelance. (I’m like ‘can we get a dog now that you work from home?’).
There are many fabulous blogs out there that inspire me. I particularly love reading UK DIY blogs, as the architectural styles, products they use, and shops they frequent are familiar and accessible. For me, reading a DIY blog is not about loving every choice they make or wanting to duplicate their style, but about getting inspiration for how even small things can make a huge difference to the feel of a room.
I know I’m late to the blog party, but hell, if it’s a good party it should still be rocking no matter how late you turn up. And the latecomers ALWAYS bring the fun.
